Have you met the Lovely Layla?

Layla is affectionate, sweet, playful and a joy to be around.  However, poor Layla does not enjoy the company of other cats at all, which makes it especially hard for her being in a shelter.  She is kept in the shelter office away from the stress of being around other cats but would much rather be in a home than an office.

Layla has some nerve damage to her front left paw which is another reason it’s so important that she gets into a home where she has much more room to move and exercise. After seeking a specialist’s opinion we hope that with time and continued exercise the nerves will repair themselves and she will once again have proper use of her paw.

Batcha- A Special Kitty’s Plea- I’VE BEEN ADOPTED!

I’ve Been Adopted!

Batcha is a beautiful young kitty, who we have fondly nicknamed ‘The Gruffalo’ because of his silky black coat and white tufts of hair in his ears! His beautiful long whiskers on his face, and his expressive eyes, melt your heart.

He is extremely playful, loving and always wanting to be around you. He loves to curl up on your lap (when he has had enough playing) and loves other cats, dogs and children. He can be a bit naughty like trying to hop in the fridge, dishwasher and laundry trough! He is a laugh a minute, and has a V8 motor engine for a purr!

Batcha is a conditional adoption as we truthfully cannot tell you how long he has. He has a mystery condition that sometimes causes him to cough when he has done too much. He could live months, or it could be years… but here at CPS every cat deserves a home.

Whatever it is, he is too special and needs that Home to give him fun and love for his time. He is bound to leave imprints on your heart, he certainly has with us.

If you would like to meet him, give us a call as our foster carer is holding him ransom!

Are you the ones to give this mischievous boy a home?

Angel’s Angel

Remember that 42 degree day Melbourne had a few weeks back? Most of us were stuck inside under the air conditioning or floating in a pool. One person, however, was not. And neither was a young kitten.

Behind a store, in a cardboard box, was a severely dehydrated and unwell kitten. She was dumped there and left to fend for herself in the blistering heat. Thankfully a lovely man found the kitten and brought her to the Cat Protection Society. He saved her life.

The kitten, now named Angel, struggled to survive for the first couple of days. Round the clock care from our Vet Team brought her back from the brink and now she’s fighting fit. We’ve also discovered she’s deaf. Not the best start to life but Angel has taken her lot in life in her stride and we are seeing a beautiful, affectionate and cuddly kitten emerge.

Because she is deaf, Angel is very clingy and if she feels scared she will cry out for a cuddle and reassurance. Which we are more than happy to give her. She’s an adorable ball of fluff with a big heart.

Cat of the Week – Maggie

Maggie

ID STA001620
NAME Maggie
GENDER Female
TYPE DSH
AGE 8 Yrs

Maggie is a special case. When she came into our Shelter we discovered that this lovely lady was suffering from skin cancer on her nose. Our friendly colleagues at Eltham Veterinary Clinic surgically removed the cancer after which Maggie then spent some time recovering in foster care. She is now ready for her new home. Maggie is a beautiful, talkative, affectionate and well-mannered cat who needs to be indoors only. Will you be able to provide this special girl with a special home?

From her foster carers: Maggie settled into our home very quickly. She explored the living area almost immediately and tried out various sleeping spots to find her favourites. She approaches new environments with curiosity and hasn’t displayed many negative behaviours. We are able to leave her alone at home and not worry about her. She enjoys being close and will lay at your feet while you sit on the couch or at the dinner table. She doesn’t jump up on furniture or kitchen benches, although she will climb up on the couch if she’s keen for a pat and to curl up next to you. Maggie is very fond of dinner time and will let you know when she’s hungry with her little meows. She is perfectly litter trained, happy to have “conversations” with you, and a perfect companion.

Cat of the Week – Layla

LAYLA

This emerald eyed beauty came to us as a heavily pregnant mum with an unexplained foot condition.  Layla was a fabulous mum and very attentive. Now that her kittens have grown up and have been adopted to their own special homes it is finally this Layla’s turn to be looked after.  After seeing a specialist it has been diagnosed that Layla has nerve damage to her front left paw that the vet believes will repair itself within 6 – 8 months with some special care and a small amount of rehabilitation each day.

Layla will suit a family with older children and can definitely hold her own with dogs.  However she really does not like other cats so must be the only feline of the house.  This lovely lady likes to snooze alongside you when it suits her or at least close by; she is always up for a quick hug and head butt and is really quite playful.  A scratching post is a must have.

Any home would be lucky to have Layla as an addition to their family, she honestly is a sweet and easy-going girl once she is settled and comfortable.

If you are interested in adopting Layla, please give us a buzz and our vet will happily talk to you about Layla’s foot rehabilitation process.

Cat of the Week – Arly

Arly

The Purrrrfect Pet for your cat

Arly needs a patient home that is willing to let him come out of his shell at his own pace. He very much enjoys the company of other cats and will most likely prefer interacting with other cats over humans. If you are looking to adopt a “Pet” for your cat and provide him with a safe and secure environment, with the understanding that he will prefer the company of your cat over yourself, then Arly would be perfect for you. We believe that every cat deserves a second chance, especially those who a struggling to find their paws in this world.

Arly would best be suited to a home with another semi-confident and playful cat.

Arly needs a loving home and a patient owner, so please consider including him as part of your family.

Merry Christmas from the 1st Epping Joey Scouts

Christmas came early this year for the Society’s felines when they got a very welcome gift from the 1st Epping Joey Scouts.

What could bring more joy to those little whiskered faces than a box FULL of handmade toys? Nothing! The Joey Scouts got creative this year and made a variety of toys using different shapes, colours, and materials.

The toys are a hit with our Kittens!

Edwin- the three legged cat

For a little tyke, this fella sure has had a rough start to life! Edwin was surrendered to us in bad shape. So much so that our vet team had perform four major surgeries on Edwin;

1) Edwin had a genetic deformity on one of his legs that had not been treated. Since birth his leg was deformed, and it was causing him so much pain and discomfort it couldn’t be saved. Our vet team had to amputate the leg.
2) Edwin had a huge hernia on his belly that needed to be removed.
3) Edwin had to have dental surgery to get some teeth removed.
4) and finally, Edwin was desexed!

Edwin is still recovering and getting used to a life with three legs. We’re hoping there’s someone out there to adopt Edwin and help restore him to full health. He’s shy and timid at the moment because he’s had so much done to him, but we are seeing signs of improvement each and every day.

UPDATE: Edwin is wobbling about on his remaining legs and his personality is beginning to shine. He’s chirpy and curious and is very excited at the prospect of going to a forever home where he can continue to gain confidence under your tender loving care.

Edwin, recovering nicely

A Christmas Message

And just remember, if you’re looking to adopt a cat or kitten as a Christmas ‘gift’ for someone, PLEASE bring the person with you to the Shelter, as we do not allow ‘gifting’. Make the ‘gift’ the trip to the Shelter, where the person can personally bond with their own Forever Friend. Because, as we all know, a pet is for life, not just for Christmas.

Cat of the Week – Bessie Lou

Bessie Lou

This gorgeous girl has a wise soul for such a young girl.  Bessie Lou is almost 2, she loves a pat and is a lady of leisure.  She is confident enough to let you know when she dislikes something and would prefer the company of mature humans only.

We have a tidal wave of kittens available for adoption. Adoption fee for Kittens up to 6 months is $120 and are desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, wormed and flea treated and come with a 2 week health cover.

Maxi and his Aged Care Visit

Maxi acted as Cat Protection Society’s ambassador this week when he went to visit the residents at Deloraine Aged Care. He was a big hit, and staff and residents alike enjoyed his company.

As part of our community outreach endeavors, Cat Protection Society of Victoria together with the help of Mellie Hudson, Coordinator of Leisure and Lifestyle at Gold Age, planned a trip to the Aged Care facility so our suitable moggies could spread some good cheer amongst the animal-loving residents.

“The residents have not stopped talking about it. We all really loved meeting you and Max!” Mellie said of the visit.

CPS staff member Jacqui accompanied Maxi, who is as chilled out as they come, for the hour-long visit, and residents who wished got to hold Maxi and shower him in cuddles and affection. Needless to say, Maxi was having the time of his life!

With the visit being such a hit, we hope it’s the first of many!

Maxi is available for adoption!

Cat of the Week – Lily

SPECIAL FOSTER CARER WANTED!

“My name is Lily and I’m sweet as pie!”

Lily is looking for a very special foster home and family. She’s a delightful cat and an absolute treasure, and any home would be lucky to have her in the fold.

Lily is a 12 year old white Domestic Short Haired female. She will need to be an indoor cat, which she would gladly abide by; one of her favourite pastimes is snoozing in her comfy igloo.

Other hobbies of Lily’s include; climbing on everyone and everything, chatting (she’ll need to be kept up to date with the latest goss), and getting spoilt, the last hobby being particularly important. Lily is accustomed to a certain ‘lifestyle’ which you will need to stick to. She requires sole attention on herself (no other cats please), human companionship, cuddles, and affection is a non-negotiable.

This voluptuous lass will bring you such joy, as you will her. The easiest way to this girl’s heart is through a brush; she loves it!

To apply to foster Lily, please contact the shelter on 8457 6500 or email adopt@catprotection.com.au
