Adoptions during COVID-19. Our response.

As you would be well aware, the situation with the COVID-19 Health Pandemic changes on a near daily basis.

Last fortnight (late March) , we made the difficult decision to close our Adoption Shelter and Private Vet Clinic to the public, however since doing so, we have continued to have cats and kittens surrendered at the Shelter and have had an incredible volume of interest from the public wanting to adopt.

Our mission at the Society is provide every cat that comes into our care with the opportunity for a loving, safe and healthy home and whilst we can continue to do so with the safety of our team top-of-mind, we believe that is essential that we continue working to this mission.

With this in mind, we are now offering Adoptions by appointment only and have made some changes to our adoption process. Anyone interested in adopting a cat from The Cat Protection Society of Victoria will need to complete an Adoption Application Form and wait for a member of our Shelter Adoption Team to contact you to discuss. We are aiming to contact all applicants within 5 days and will use this phone conversation to discuss your application and determine whether we have a cat or kitten available who would suit your home and family dynamic.

If a suitable match is identified, you will then have the opportunity to visit our Shelter by appointment to meet the cat or kitten and confirm if you would like to proceed with the Adoption. To ensure we can protect our team, the cats in our care and the wider community safe, we ask the following:

• You do not attend your Adoption Appointment if you are feeling unwell or you have come into close contact with someone diagnosed with COVID-19. Please contact our Shelter on 8457.6500 should you need to cancel your Adoption Appointment

• A maximum of 2 people attend the Adoption Appointment; this should include the person who will be responsible for the ongoing care of the Cat or Kitten you may potentially adopt

• You follow recommendations with regards to maintaining a physical distance from others (including our CPSV Staff) whilst at the Shelter

Please note, that should the situation or Government recommendations change with regards to COVID-19, we may need to review this decision and will advise accordingly.

Thank you for your continued support and understanding during this challenging time.
