Hi Cat Lovers
Well amongst the excitement of launching our clinic cat Champers on Twitter (sorry Meow), some very disturbing news has come across my desk. It is my understanding that several feral cats have been shot at Mildura Pound by the Local Laws Officer, and their death has not been instantaneous.

This is tragic and astounding news in the 21st century. Mildura is a large regional city with several veterinary practices and absolutely no need to resort to such antiquated barbaric practice. To destroy any cat by shooting shows total disrespect for their dignity, but to do this at the pound when other humane methods are available beggers belief, and then to not do it properly is tantamount to cruelty. How dare they treat cats this way!. You can also write to the Mayor and councillors at Mildura council mrcc@mildura.vic.gov.au and let them know what you think, you will find their details here.
We will be calling on Mildura to cease this practice immediately and investigate the incident and provide a full report - feral cats can be handled, safely and humanely and if the needs be euthanased with an overdose of anaesthesia which is peaceful - not the violence of a misplaced gun shot.
To those shelter workers who had to witness the tragedy we send our deepest sympathy - our thoughts are with you
Lots of purrs
Carole
Please let us know your thoughts.

This is totally appalling, I am deeply shocked, saddened and angry that this could occur. How dare they justify an act of cruelty by saying that they were feral, they did not deseerve to die is such a manner given that a vet was available to euthanise. I just assume that people who do such despicable acts on animals are deeply disturbed individuals who look at as an easy way to get out of the act of committing murder!
May those furry souls be at peace!

carole, witness has come forward to Sunraysia Daily and in last Sunday’s newspaper witness confirmed it was three cats and 11 kittens that he had personally put in cages. They were not even feral.
